The last weekend in October, what a race meeting! Temperatures soared for a busy event card and the racing was even hotter. A number of categories finalised their 2019 champions over the weekend and we look forward to seeing these competitors again in 2020. As well as the Torque Trophy and the Trevor Roy Young Memorial being contested, the event also took time to recognise and thank a wonderful and highly respected Club member, Mr Rob Janney. A huge thank you goes out to all the Officials for continuing to perform under such emotional conditions.
For health reasons Rob has resigned his most recent role as a member of the WASCC Committee. We thank him for his service to the Club in this role as well as recognise his efforts in many other roles over past decades. Rob’s selfless giving has helped the WASCC and Wanneroo Raceway become the organisation and facility it is today. Thanks again, Rob.
During October our Wanneroo facility has been busy with plenty of events and activities. These have included Tuning Days, Drift Practice, bike ride days, Arise Racing Lap Challenge for Telethon 2019, Powercruise 2019, WASCC Competition Driving School. Audi ran a big promo event and we had our regular bookings from WA Police and FMG.
We also commenced the roll-out of our new WASCC Customer Management System. All members and officials should have received notice of this and how the roll-out is being conducted.
Our November meeting is shaping up well, we’re looking forward to the 100km Enduro event for sport sedans, sports production cars, IP, street cars and saloon cars, as well as sprint races and time challenge events. In addition to the race meeting we’re preparing for lots of category sponsor events, motorcycles, the DriftWest BattleFest which is the premier Drift event for 2019 as well as the Supermoto motorcycles on Jack’s Hill.
As we head towards the conclusion of the 2019 race calendar, recent analysis of 10 years of race entries has provided some encouraging data. The way the final meeting of the year is shaping up we’re confident that 2019 will see the highest race entry numbers for a decade. This information became available as a result of analysis in preparation for the WASCC strategic planning process. Considering the late start to the season due to the track resurfacing, this is a great result. While we won’t pre-empt any strategic planning outcomes, there’s not much doubt part of our plan will be to keep progressing this trend into 2020 and beyond!
